Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus Touch Model

Now open. Patients and staff at this large urban health care campus find it hard to navigate here because of the large number of hospitals, all linked together by bridges that are widely used in the winter months. Touch Graphics created an orientation and way finding directory for display in the University’s Discovery Center, at the center of the medical campus. This interactive map allows users to touch 3D printed models of each building, and a visual/tactile skin. In response, they hear spoken names, descriptions and walking directions to any destination. An index of major buildings appears at the bottom of the map. When users touch one of the index entries, that place on the map lights up. For visually impaired users, a rising pitch tone assists in locating search targets.
