Amazon Sunnyvale Campus Model

Amazon Sunnyvale Campus Model-An interactive wayfinding and orientation map for Amazon’s Lab 126 office campus in Sunnyvale, California. A tactile skin with raised lines, textures, braille and visual printing is laminated to the glass of a large Android tablet. 3D printed buildings are mounted to the skin. The underlying coating on 3D buildings is conductive carbon: when users touch the buildings, an electrical pathway is created between their charged body and the touchscreen glass, so that the touchscreen “thinks” that a finger has touched the glass at that location. This creates the illusion that the surfaces of the plastic buildings are responding directly to touch. This map was made for, and in collaboration with, Dr. Joshua Miele.
