These are interactive raised-line diagrams, maps and other illustrations that are meant to be perceived by touch. You can press down on any part of and audio-tactile graphic to request a description. Audio-tactile graphics are intended to be accessible for readers who do not use print graphics.

This is a large tablet computer running Google’s Android operating system. Users place T3 overlay sheets on the T3 Tactile Tablet, then follow spoken instructions as they examine the raised-line and textured diagram, map or other illustration.

These are paper or plastic pages designed to be used with the T3 Tactile Tablet. Each tactile overlay has three holes punched in the left edge. These holes serve two purposes: first, they allow multiple tactile overlays to be stored in three ring binders; and second, the holes line up with three short, metal registration pins that are mounted to the left edge of the T3 Tactile Tablet.

T3 Books are three-ring binders full of Tactile Overlays that fit on the T3 Tactile Tablet.

With T3, you can examine tactile maps, diagrams, and other illustrations with your fingers and hands, then you can activate audio-descriptions by pressing down on any feature of the tactile graphic with just one finger for one second. Additional taps on the same feature reveal more information.

Each T3 tactile overlay includes a unique printed QR code in the upper right corner. When you place the overlay on the sheet so that the three registration pins line up with the punched holes, the QR code will be in the right spot, so that the Tablet’s built-in camera is able to take a picture of the QR code, consult a cloud-based database to identify the placed sheet.

Yes, like any computer tablet, the T3 relies on an internet connection for most functions. An exception to this general rule is that T3 Braille-Module 1: Tracking and Module 2: Alphabet will run fine without an internet connection.

Just connect a standard network cable to the T3 Tablet’s ethernet jack on the back, you will be connected and can begin using T3 without any further action.

To connect to the internet, you must first exit the T3 app using the Menu. Swipe down across the entire tactile overlay to enter the Menu, and continue swiping until you hear “Exit T3”. Then swipe to the right. You will land on the Android desktop. From there, you should select a wifi hotspot, and enter the password. Once you are connected to WiFi, either select the T3 icon on the desktop, or restart the T3 Tablet.

You can activate Talkback, which is the screen reader that comes with all Android phones and tablets. To do this: plug in a standard USB wired keyboard to any USB jack on the back of the T3 Tactile Tablet. Type Contol+Alt+Y to activate Talkback. Once activated, use standard Talkback commands and gestures to turn on Wifi, select a network from a list, and enter any required password. Once done, you must enter Control+Alt+Y again to turn off Talkback. Skipping this final step will prevent you from using T3 Tactile Tablet.

T3 Tactile Tablet relies on gestures to control the system. The most important gesture is the one you will use while examining tactile graphics. If you touch with both hands, the T3 will remain silent. To activate audio description, maintain contact with one finger touching the thing you want to know about, and lift your other fingers slightly so they are no longer touching the tactile overlay. Maintain contact with one finger for one second for touch with just one finger.

If, any time, you would like the audio to stop immediately, just double tap anywhere.

To access the Menu, swipe up or down across the entire tactile overlay. Continue swiping in the same direction to hear the options. When you hear the option you want, swipe right to select. Currently, the T3 Menu options are:

Yes. The T3 Tablet is a standard large Android tablet, it can be used for watching You Tube videos, playing games or using any app available on the Google Play Store. To use the T3 as a standard tablet, first exit the T3 app by swiping down across the entire tactile overlay until you hear, “Exit T3”, then swipe to the right. If you need screen reader support, plug in a USB keyboard and enter Contol+Alt+Y to activate Talkback.

Yes. There is a carrying handle that makes it easy to pick up and move from place to place. However, you will need to find a power source wherever you go because the T3 Tablet does not run on batteries.

Yes. T3 Portal allows teachers to view a report on who has been using the T3 for how long on what days, the activities that were attempted, and the score for each activity carried out during each use session.
