Washington School for the Blind-Tactile Campus Maps

Now Open!

Working closely with the Superindent and O&M Trainers, Touch Graphics created five talking tactile maps showing the campus as a whole, and the interior of the main classroom building. The maps highlight “tactile points of interest”, touchable sculptures, fountains and braille signage scattered all over campus.

Specifications:

  • 27 inch Android touchscreens

  • Tactile skin laminated to the tablet glass.

  • Title, scale bar, compass rose, map key and captions appear on the left side.

  • An index of places on campus appears on the right side.

  • Rising-pitch sonification guides users finger to any destination in the index.

  • Auditory information is organized in three layers

    • Layer 1: Name

    • Layer 2: Function

    • Layer 3: Directions

  • Display stand with motorized height adjustment
